Screen recording in Safari
Safari supports screen capture, but with the narrowest feature set of the major browsers and a different output format.
What Safari supports
Screen and window capture on macOS. Microphone audio. MP4 output using H.264 video and AAC audio, rather than the WebM every other browser produces.
What it does not
No audio from the shared source, on any platform. Safari on iOS and iPadOS does not offer screen capture to web pages at all; recording on a phone explains what to use instead.
The MP4 upside
Because Safari produces MP4, the file plays straight away in almost anything — no conversion needed for editors or phones that dislike WebM.
If you routinely send recordings to people on mixed devices, recording in Safari on a Mac saves you a conversion step every time. That can outweigh the missing features.
