How to record a webinar or online class

Webinars are long, which changes what matters: an hour of recording that fails at minute fifty-nine is worse than three short recordings.

Record in segments

The file is held in your browser’s memory until you download it, so a long recording is also a large one. Stop and save at natural breaks rather than recording two hours in one go. If something goes wrong you lose one segment, not everything. How long a recording can be puts numbers to it.

Do not close the tab

The recording exists only in that tab. Closing or reloading it destroys the file. The browser will warn you, but the safest habit is to leave the recorder tab alone until you have downloaded the result.

Check the audio before you commit

Use the microphone test on the recorder page before you start. Discovering after ninety minutes that the wrong input was selected is the single most common way a long recording is wasted.
