How to record your screen on a Chromebook
Chromebooks run Chrome, so browser-based screen recording works well. ChromeOS also has its own recorder built into the system tray, and for some jobs that is the better tool.
Recording in the browser
Open the recorder and press start. The picker offers your whole screen, a specific window, or a Chrome tab. Tab recording is the cleanest option on a Chromebook because it also captures that tab’s audio.
The built-in option
Press Shift + Ctrl + Show Windows, or open the status area and choose Screen capture. ChromeOS records to your Downloads folder as a WebM file, the same format a browser produces. It can record a selected region of the screen, which a web page cannot do, and it keeps recording while you switch between apps.
Which to use
Use the browser recorder when you want the file to stay in the page until you decide to save it, or when you want a webcam overlay. Use the ChromeOS recorder when you need a cropped region or want to record outside the browser entirely.
