Screen recording in Firefox
Firefox records the screen reliably, but it does not implement audio capture from the shared source at all. That single gap catches most people out.
What Firefox supports
Whole screens, application windows and browser tabs. Microphone audio. WebM output, usually VP8 with Opus.
What it does not
No tab audio and no system audio. If you record a video playing in a tab in Firefox, the result is silent. Four reasons a recording has no sound covers the rest. Turn on the microphone and narrate, or use Chrome or Edge when the source audio matters.
One thing Firefox does better
Firefox supports fastSeek, which makes scrubbing through a long recording noticeably quicker than in other browsers.
Firefox also tends to produce smaller files for the same footage, because it defaults to VP8 with fairly conservative bitrates. For screen content, where most of the frame is static, the difference in quality is usually invisible.
